Listed for $125 Million: Two Estates Tie as the Country’s Most Expensive Homes for Sale

With price tags of $125 million, two homes on opposite coasts are now tied for the most expensive homes for sale in the United States. The first home, known as “Fleur de Lys” has been on the $100 million + list, as an on and off active listing for about 5 years now. The 100 room Beverly Hills, California mansion boasts a ballroom, a home theater with seating for 50, two kitchens, a nine car garage, quarters for a staff of ten, a separate three bedroom guest/caretaker house and just about all the opulence befitting a home holding the title of the most expensive home for sale currently on the U.S. market.

Most recently, the house to tie with “Fleur de Lys” is the estate of the late Gianni Versace. The 23,400 sq. ft. Miami Beach home was purchased for $20 million in 2000 and was then converted into an ultra posh, five star hotel known as Casa Casuarina. Although technically a hotel, the house is back on the market seeking out a residential buyer. Versace originally bought the property when it was an aging apartment complex in 1992. He spent just under $10 million for the property and went on to spend more than $30 million renovating the building into a gold gilded, private palace. One of his additions included a 54-foot long pool lined in 24 karat gold. Other highlights include a prime waterfront location on Ocean Drive, 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, an observatory and Versace’s original hand-painted walls and fresco ceilings.
