Build It And They Will Come: The Famous ‘Field of Dreams’ Movie Field Sells

“Build it and they will come.” – The movie that spawned one of the most famous lines in cinematic history has reportedly been sold. According to The New York Times, the reported sale of the Dyersville, Iowa field made famous in Kevin Costner’s epic 1989 baseball movie, “Field of Dreams” is now officially a done deal.

The 193 acre farm originally went up for sale about a year and a half ago with an asking price of $5.4 million. The final sales price is not yet being disclosed. Reports from the Des Moines Register estimate the field, minus movie star status, would go for about $7,000 per acre, which would come in at just about $1.35 million. Clearly, the famous nature of the field is expected to bring in much more than average farm land comps in the area.

Staying true to the property’s iconic status, the buyers, Mike and Denise Stillman who own Go the Distance Baseball LLC, plan to develop the farm as a baseball and softball complex. They say they plan to keep the original baseball diamond and the two bedroom house spotlighted in the movie.

The farm’s sellers, Don and Becky Lansing, have long shared their piece of movie history, keeping the field open for visitors free of admission. It was reported the Lansings were looking for buyers who would help keep the baseball history alive… right now, it certainly looks like they did.
